We just lost one of our “family” members, our beloved cat, Tomato…and I’m not sure how to break the news to my little one who is only 5.

The key here is to be loving, nurturing, and kind. You might also consider explaining that Tomato is in a better place now. Don’t try to “soften the blow” by turning it into a joke or lying to your child. Tell them the truth and simply be there for them.
